To earn the Entrepreneurial Startup Skills micro-credential, one must show the practical use of entrepreneurial thinking and implement entrepreneurial skills and practices to create a solution to a problem. By identifying a real-world problem and designing an innovative solution, the candidate will demonstrate leadership, teamwork, creativity, time management, problem identification and solving, communication, and critical thinking skills. These skills will be shown through self-reflection, a two-minute video pitch, a five-minute live pitch and a mentor recommendation. This MC will be issued by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative at CU Boulder.

Requirements

Learners are required to attend and reflect on 4 "Entrepreneurship" flagged micro-credential workshops, work with a mentor for at least 4 hours and secure a mentor recommendation, submit a two-minute pitch video and pitch deck, present a live, five-minute pitch at the first round of the New Venture Challenge and score at least a 60% from the judges in the following areas:

  1. Problem identification.
  2. Viable solution to the problem.
  3. Identification of venture timelines and milestones.
  4. Customer discovery and market validation.
  5. Venture leadership assessment.
  6. Identification and long-term plan of execution. 

Criteria

Learners must identify a problem, creatively and collaboratively identify a solution to the problem, identify a market for their solution through research, work with a mentor to develop their business plan and present their plan to a panel of judges.
